The Town of Penfield will hold Independence Day celebration events on Saturday, June 30, 2018, including a patriotic parade, music and food at Harris Whalen Park, and a huge fireworks display.

The annual Independence Day parade will kick off our 2018 celebration at 10:00 am. The parade will begin at Penfield High School and travel to Penfield Community Center via Rt. 441. Parade highlights include the music of Penfield Fire Company Band, Gates Keystone Club Police Pipes and Drums, Downbeat Percussion, Towpath Volunteers Fife & Drum, Kelley’s Heroes Marching Band, The Hit Men Brass Band, and much more! Mr. Don Alhart will be back as Emcee, and this year’s Parade Marshal is Sheriff Patrick M. O’Flynn.

Sheriff O’Flynn has been a part of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office since 1976, and was promoted through the department as sergeant and lieutenant, and became SWAT Commander. He was appointed Monroe County Undersheriff in 1988, before being appointed Sheriff by Governor George Pataki May 2001. He served 4 four-year terms before retiring in January of 2018.

“We are proud to call Sheriff O’Flynn a resident of Penfield,” said Penfield Town Supervisor Tony LaFountain. “We are pleased to honor him for his long and dedicated service to Monroe County.”
Events will reconvene at Harris Whalen Park at 5:00 pm with food vendors available and Black Rabbit and Dog House on stage throughout the evening. The area’s largest fireworks display will commence at 10:00 pm. All events are free and open to the public.
